"Ashamed of the Gospel" Book

Since the 1993 release of John MacArthur's book, Ashamed of the Gospel, the world has experienced phenomenal change. The fall of Communism marked the failure of the modernist experiment-"The Age of Reason" proved irrationally cold and cruel at the core. The age of doubt isn't very promising either. "Question everything," the postmodernist manifesto, is just as vapid and hollow as its modernist parents.

Sadly, many evangelical leaders, churches, and institutions have made it their business to chase the changing winds of the culture. Rather than proclaiming the old truths of the gospel, boldly and unashamedly, they've catered to the spirit of the age-relevance. They now own curse of this dictum: "He who marries the spirit of the age soon finds himself a widower."

The alarm John originally sounded in Ashamed of the Gospel was not heeded, and the predictions he made came true. The evangelical movement is now more fractured, doctrinally illiterate, and confused than ever. That's what makes the release of this third edition so important. The way forward, out of this mess, is a return to old ways-simple trust and faithful obedience to God's Word.

In this third edition of Ashamed of the Gospel, John has added a new preface that will bring you up to speed with the seismic changes in our world since the first edition. It'll help you understand the current cultural landscape and get you ready to interact with the book's thesis. Two new chapters and an additional appendix make this book the most incisive and prophetic critique of our time.

When you fill out the form to join the Grace to You mailing list, they'll automatically mail you an offer in March for a free copy of this new edition of Ashamed of the Gospel. No pressure, no obligation-they simply want to minister to you.

If you're already on their mailing list, there's no need to fill out the form; you'll automatically receive John's letter and book offer in your mailbox in March. It's their gift to you-an expression of their commitment to "Unleashing God's Truth One Verse at a Time."

Note: This free book offer page expires February 17, 2010. This offer is available only to those with mailing addresses serviced by GTY offices in the United States and Canada.

Free "Shanghai Girls" Book

In 1937, Shanghai is the Paris of Asia, full of great wealth and glamour, home to millionaires and beggars, gangsters and gamblers, patriots and revolutionaries, artists and warlords. Twenty-one-year-old Pearl Chin and her younger sister May are having the time of their lives, thanks to the financial security and material comforts provided by their father's prosperous rickshaw business. Though both wave off authority and traditions, they couldn't be more different. Pearl is a Dragon sign, strong and stubborn, while May is a true Sheep, adorable and placid. Both are beautiful, modern, and living the carefree life ... until the day their father tells them that he has gambled away their wealth, and that in order to repay his debts he must sell the girls as wives to suitors who have traveled from Los Angeles to find Chinese brides.

As Japanese bombs fall on their beloved city, Pearl and May set out on the journey of a lifetime, one that will take them through the villages of south China, in and out of the clutch of brutal soldiers, and across the Pacific to the foreign shores of America. In Los Angeles, they begin a fresh chapter, trying to find love with their stranger husbands, brushing against the seduction of Hollywood, and striving to embrace American life, even as they fight against discrimination, brave Communist witch hunts, and find themselves hemmed in by Chinatown's old ways and rules.

At its heart, Shanghai Girls is a story of sisters: Pearl and May are inseparable best friends, who share hopes, dreams, and a deep connection. But like sisters everywhere, they also harbor petty jealousies and rivalries. They love each other but they also know exactly where to drive the knife to hurt the other sister the most. Along the way there are terrible sacrifices, impossible choices and one devastating, life-changing secret, but through it all the two heroines of this astounding new novel by Lisa See hold fast to who they are - Shanghai girls.

Send a free copy of Lisa See's new paperback, Shanghai Girls, to one of your friends and you will be entered for a chance to win 1 of 25 signed copies of the Deluxe Edition of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.

"Walking to Gatlinburg" Book

A Civil War odyssey in the tradition of Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain and Robert Olmstead's Coal Black Horse, Mosher's latest (after On Kingdom Mountain), about a Vermont teenager's harrowing journey south to find his missing-in-action brother, is old-fashioned in the best sense of the word. Seventeen-year-old Morgan Kinneson goes in search of his older brother, Pilgrim, a Union soldier reported MIA at Gettysburg. But first, Morgan accidentally causes the death of a runaway slave he was leading to safety in Canada. In the course of tracking down his missing brother, Morgan is pursued by slave catchers, accompanies an elephant on an Erie Canal showboat, visits the battlefield at Gettysburg, meets an escaped slave who turns out to be the dead slave's granddaughter, and gets wounded during a mountain feud before learning of Pilgrim's fate. Complicating matters is a rune stone the dead slave left to Morgan, which could compromise the security of the Underground Railroad if the slave catchers get their hands on it. The story of Morgan's rite-of-passage through an American arcadia despoiled by war and slavery is an engrossing tale with mass appeal.

"Secrets of Eden" Book

Bohjalian has built a reputation on his rich characters and immersing readers in diverse subjects-homeopathy, animal rights activism, midwifery-and his latest surely won't disappoint. The morning after her baptism into the Rev. Stephen Drew's Vermont Baptist church, Alice Hayward and her abusive husband are found dead in their home, an apparent murder-suicide. Stephen, the novel's first narrator, is so racked with guilt over his failure to save Alice that he leaves town. Soon, he meets Heather Laurent, the author of a book about angels whose own parents' marriage also ended in tragedy. Stephen's deeply sympathetic narration is challenged by the next two narrators: deputy state attorney Catherine Benincasa, whose suspicions are aroused initially by Stephen's abrupt departure (and then by questions about his relationship with Alice), and Heather, who distances herself from Stephen for similar reasons and risks the trip into her dark past by seeking out Katie, the Haywards' now-orphaned 15-year-old daughter who puts into play the final pieces of the puzzle, setting things up for a touching twist. Fans of Bohjalian's more exotic works will miss learning something new, but this is a masterfully human and compassionate tale.

"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" Book

Science journalist Skloot makes a remarkable debut with this multilayered story about faith, science, journalism, and grace. Advance Reader Copy of Keeper by Kathi Appelt

To ten-year-old Keeper, this moon is her chance to fix all that has gone wrong...and so much has gone wrong. But she knows who can make things right again: Meggie Marie, her mermaid mother who swam away when Keeper was just three. A blue moon calls the mermaids to gather at the sandbar, and that's exactly where she is headed -- in a small boat, in the middle of the night, with only her dog, BD (Best Dog), and a seagull named Captain.

When the riptide pulls at the boat, tugging her away from the shore and deep into the rough waters of the Gulf of Mexico, panic sets in, and the fairy tales that lured her out there go tumbling into the waves. Maybe the blue moon isn't magic and maybe the sandbar won't sparkle with mermaids and maybe -- Oh, no..."Maybe" is just too difficult to bear. Kathi Appelt follows up to her New York Times bestseller, The Underneath, with a tale that will pull right at your very core -- stronger than moon currents -- capturing the crash and echo of the waves and the dark magic of the ocean.
